WWJD? I know many of you know a different acronym for that, but in the case of tomorrow’s monthly member call, it’s “What Would Janice Do?”. And by Janice, we are talking about Janice Bellucci.
Janice is the Executive Director of the Alliance for Constitutional Sex Offense Laws (ACSOL) and for the persons required to register in California, she’s a savior in her own right.
In the beginning, Florida and California were both in the running for ‘worst state’ for those on the registry. At one point, both had residency restrictions, proximity ordinances, lifetime registration and a legislature that was steamrolling in one direction. Through showing up and speaking out in Sacramento, plus a series of winning lawsuits, California is coming around. Residency restrictions and proximity ordinances are a thing of the past in most of their state, they were able to implement a Sex Offender Management Board to make recommendations, and as of 2021 their legislature actually enacted a tiered registry that will enable people to fall off the list. Granted, nowhere with a registry is good, but at least things are better there than they were.
I can tell you what Janice would do : “Show Up, Stand Up, Speak Up” and file a lawsuit! Janice is a Savior to so many and definitely me and my family. She has done more for me than anyone in my entire life through this organization. Janice calms my nerves because she fights for all of us and each victory makes us more confident of her abilities. I am so proud to know her and be in her company. I am one lucky man to have had the honor of Janice Bellucci in our life.
Thank you so Much!!!
Janice Bellucci is the real deal people in California are so lucky
Janice, your vision and leadership have inspired and changed the lives of thousands of registrants. Thank you!
Janice,
Cali. is perhaps the most liberal state & Florida is perhaps the most conservative of states, yet each is by your estimation are the worst. Kinda obvious this perception mirrors both extreme of politics and each’s unconstitutional disposition toward the sex offender.
To be sure both sides, upon reading Scalia’s attitude toward the database in Doe, decided to utilize the database infrastructure to which best suited their parties particular needs.
“In the beginning, Florida and California were both in the running for ‘worst state’ for those on the registry.”
Exactly!!! Now there’s a big difference between Florida and California.
And to all of the naysayers who are constantly criticizing Janice and ACSOL because things don’t initially go as planned, I invite you to take a look at Florida – the land of Senator Lauren Book and her Drunk-Drivin’ Daddy (allegedly). Take Janice and ACSOL out of the equation, and California would still be just about as bad as Florida.
Folks, we all must continue to show up, stand up, speak up, AND ante up (aka: donate!). California has its own versions of “the Books”. Let’s start with Nicole Parra. She’s the moron responsible for California’s Megan’s Law Database going public on the internet! Nobody seems to remember her; I sure do!!! Then we had the Runners. Oh, yes, don’t you remember the Runners??? Now we have Melendez and Fletcher and others, I’m sure.
I bet Florida wishes they had Janice and ACSOL. I know I wish the state in which I live does!!!
I am just worrie that Janice and chance will be payed off and we lose our fighters. Money talks and bullcrap walks away with the money. I hate my thinking but it does happen. Please don’t leave us. Lot of people did not do this sex crime. Most like my self was told to take a plea. Mine was over my ex accuse me of harming our son. It was a nightmare. And still is.
Since moving California in August of 2019, the most practical, emotional and personal support from someone, aside from my wife, has been Janice. Her ability to get stuff done while battling an onslaught of abusive naysayers has been a true mitzvah (yiddish word meaning, “act of human kindness’). Thank you, Janice.
I was released from custody in 2013. At the time we had 2000 ft residency restriction, Lifetime registry for all, and enforceable Halloween restrictions. One by one I have watched Janice confront all of them, file many, many suits, and eventually win. Now the residency restrictions and Halloween mandates are gone pretty much state wide I think, and we have a tired registry that is a work in progress with thousands of people freed from a life sentence. As of yet, I’m still a lifer for a non contact offense, but I have watched ACSOL closely over the last 7 years and they are the real deal. I know more good is coming simply because the registry is wrong, it is unconstitutional, and the narrative about people on the registry is born from a lie and the truth is getting revealed little by little, and in the near future there will be relief. Thank you Janice.
What! What would Janice do. Well first thing you never underestimate a woman. Second thing is I think CA is still trying to find their lost shaker of salt. Third this database well thats just principal that anyone should learn. The good book has more understanding than all the data in the world, facts, proof, examples, etc. plus wisdom and understanding. and fifth how did Alfred Hickcock get into all this or is it the attact of the birds again season. At least it’s 5’oclock somewhere. What can I say give i’m hell Janice.
